The Dark Circle Fix: Everything You Need To Fake A Good Night’s Sleep

The Dark Circle Fix: Everything
You Need To Fake A Good Night’s Sleep

These days, it’s a miracle if I manage to get at least 5 hours of interrupted sleep. Between a little puppy who needs to go outside every three hours, to my two-year-old nephew who likes to run into my room and hide from the monster (which is just my mother snoring), uninterrupted sleep seems like a fairytale dream to me. I can’t remember what it’s like to feel fully rested, and yes, I do regret all those nap times I missed as a child.

Now that event season is almost here, and the weather's getting warmer, it’s more important than ever to look refreshed and awake. Luckily I have a few tips and tricks to help us look more Angelina Jolie and less Corpse Bride.

Don’t underestimate the power of under eye masks…

Eye masks are amazing and, honestly, I feel like they don’t get enough credit for the little wonders that they do. We all know that tired-eye feeling - that tightness, dryness and horrible dragging down combo; Well, eye masks can change all that! I use BeautyPro Eye Therapy Under Eye Mask, which is packed with collagen and green tea extract that are amazing at soothing and depuffing my bags in the morning. I just place them on whilst I eat breakfast and brush my teeth to wake me up before putting on my makeup.

Cooling eye cream is a must-have…

Eye cream is great and I found that if you store it in the fridge, it’s even better! Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream is perfect for cooling and soothing down my tired eyes in the morning and I find applying the cooling cream can wake me up much better than my cup of coffee (which is saying a lot). The cream is infused with Vitamin C and aloe gel which works wonders in hydrating the tissue under your eyes and lessening the appearance of dark circles.

Paint your under eyes orange…

I know that slathering a deeply alarming color under your eyes may seem like a drastic idea, especially as your trying to hide your dark circles,
but just hear me out! Colour correcting concealer has saved me many times and I find the more orange it is, the better. PIXI Correction Concentrate is a deep apricot colored cream that honestly works miracles in combating my under eye bags. The pigmented formula helps to neutralize discoloration under the eyes, which is pretty unrecognizable under a thin layer of foundation.

Get a dewy finish foundation...

Foundation is very important, not just to even out your skin's texture, but to hide the color correction concealer, as you don’t want to be sporting bright orange crescents under your eyes at the office. A foundation I have used for years and have yet to find anything better at giving me that much needed radiating glow and coverage is Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Foundation. The lightweight liquid is infused with Vitamin C and radiance pearls, which gives my skin a lovely sunkissed and dewy appearance. I must admit, I have gotten a lot of compliments when wearing this foundation and it also smells amazing!

Find the right setting powder...

Setting Powder is a must-have to keep your makeup in check all day, especially under your eyes! I find it very difficult to find a setting powder that doesn’t dry me out or emphasize my under-eye lines. However, I have found a powder that not only bakes my makeup without leaving an ashy cast, but it also doesn’t sink into my lines like dried out clay- yay! RCMA No-Colour Powder is not only weightless on my face, but it’s also pretty weightless on my wallet too!

Use your waterline to fake wide eyes…

I have recently found that using an eye pencil along my waterline and in the corner of my eye can work wonders in making my eyes pop. I use Benefit Eye Bright Pencil as it is the perfect pink creamy shade to lighten up my eye area without leaving me looking like a ventriloquist doll.

So whether you’ve had a late night or you can’t remember what sleep is (we’ve all been there), these products should do the trick in helping you look more awake and less dawn of the dead!
